Stand Up Paddle Atlanta Sunday July 12

This July 12 trip turned into a real adventure. Steve, Sean, Joe, and Dan started at Buford Dam and planned to paddle to Lake Lanier Resort. Dan was visiting from Florida, happened to see the Stone Mountain website, and got in touch. Joe is a surfer from Dahlonega and a member of the Atlanta Surf Posse. We may not have pegged the adventure meter on this one, but we got it into the red.

We paddled over 8 miles  roundtrip. We had some beers and food at Lake Lanier resort and all appeared to be going well. Unfortunately, a not so little storm popped up, and the trip home turned into a beast of a paddle straight into wind and white caps. We made it back to the dam about about 930pm. Check out the historical wind report here. The wind maxed out at 25 mph with gusts over 30mph. You get the idea.

We had a great laugh about it once we got back to the cars. We got the boards strapped down right before the storm unleashed.
